ENGLAND NATIONAL TEAM FOOTBALL MANAGERS

Sam Allardyce had resigned from his position as the England National Team manager due to “bung” scandal after one game in charge. With high hope and his ambition to get the England manager and with the support from his peers, his hope had been dashed and historically now he had become the shortest serving England manager. While Walter Winterbottom had become the longest-serving England managers ever for 17 years starting from 1946 until 1963, Sam Allardyce had the shortest reign for any England managers. The England national football team managers are one of the most coveted international football positions in the world football and many managers will like to be in this position but unfortunately they also need to handle the pressure from the English media whom ready to viciously nullify the managers and also prepare to expose him in any scandal in football or even personal life.

The manager record from 1946 until now it is mixed with only Sir Alf Ramsey had been able to make them winning a major tournament the 1966 World Cup with a formidable team that consists the like of Sir Bobby Moore, Sir Bobby Charlton, Sir Geoff Hurst , Gordon Banks and much more. Until now they are one of the best England team ever as they had proved themselves by finishing 3rd in 1968 European Cup and also progressing to the quarter-final in 1970. The England team is the only team that had lost to the eventual winner Brazil by a margin of 1-0 and in his game the Brazilians that considered the greatest team ever were pushed to their maximum in this tournament by this England team.

Manager whom had great record with the English club had fared badly when they had been given the opportunity to manage England as happen with Don Revie whom unable to make England qualify for the 1978 World Cup, Graham Taylor who had failed to qualify England for the 1994 World Cup and last Steve Mclaren who had failed to qualify England for the Euro 2008.

England manager like Sir Bobby Robson and Terry Venables had been nullified by the English press when they had lost a game or when the team performed badly but in the major tournament both of team have one of the best record after Sir Alf Ramsey as they had managed their team to the semi-final of the 1990 World Cup (Sir Bobby Robson) and 1996 European Cup (Terry Venables). Both have shared some similarities as both of them had been knocked out by the Germans via penalties in both of this tournament and another irony the Germans had become the winner of the respective tournaments in 1990 and 1996 after knocking out England in the semi-final via penalties.

To raise the performance of the England team, the English FA had turned to a foreigner as their manager with the appointment of Sven Goran Eriksson in 2001. His appointment was criticized but his England team had managed to defeat the Germany team in Munich with a score line of 5-1 in the 2002 World Cup qualifying rounds. And even in the major tournament like the World Cup and European Cup Sven had managed them to progress them to the quarter final where each time they were knocked out by eventual winners(2002 World Cup  by Brazil) or via a penalty shootout(2004 Euro and 2006 World Cup by Portugal).

Another foreign manager was appointed and it is in the form of an Italian Fabio Capello . He is expected to bring the best out of the England team as he had managed AC Milan , AS Roma, Real Madrid and Juventus and had won a trophy with each of the team. But even he is unable to change the England team fortune as they had been knocked out in the second round of the 2010 World Cup by German who had given them the heaviest defeat ever in World Cup with a scoreline of 4 – 1 and also he had resigned from the post in 2012 after a row with FA with regards to the John Terry captain armband issues.

Roy Hodgson is the next England managers who had failed in the major tournament with the England team had been knocked out via penalties in 2012 Euro, knocked out in the group stages in 2014 World Cup and had been knocked out by debutant Iceland in 2016 Euro. This mark the first time since 1950 that the England team had not been knocked via a penalties shootout, by eventual finalist or winner and instead knocked out for the first time by a debutant in any major tournament knockout round.

Roy Hodgson also had bad spell with the England national football team

The England national team manager is a job where the manager needs to handle the vicious English press where they can nullify team viciously if they had performed really bad or making any unpopular decision. The appointed manager also need to alert with any spy or undercover from the English press reporter that can lead the manager to be fired like happen with Sven Goran Eriksson and also now Sam Allardyce.

Since 1966 no England manager had reached the final of any major tournament or had won any of them. The English FA whom even appointed a foreign manager but still no manager can emulate the legendary 1966 heroes. England team great players for the club like David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney, Andy Cole, Paul Scholes, Micheal Owen , Paul Gascoigne, and much more although had won several major trophies with the club but they had not come close to win a major tournament with the national team.

Where the Germans had won 3 World Cup trophies (1974, 1990 and 2014), 3 European Cup (1972,1980 ,1996), Italy had won 2 World Cup (1982,2006), France had won 1 World Cup (1998), 2 European Cup (1984,2000), Brazil had won 3 World Cup (1970,1994,2012) and Argentina had won 2(1978,1986) since England had become the World Champion in 1966. Their success may have led the England manager to a huge amount of expectation as England although they had not won any major tournaments since 1966 yet they are no shortage of good player in the ranks. Maybe the next England manager will be able to change this record but for now after Sir Alf Ramsey, Sir Bobby Charlton , Terry Venable and Sven Goran Eriksson that had managed England team to their best performance since 1966.
