Even though they had won the game, but it was Barcelona who had dominated, and something is expected to happen in the second leg in Camp Nou. Barcelona had overcome the first leg and score 2 successive goals and the onslaught is expected to be greater when John Terry the Chelsea caption was sent off but out of nowhere, Chelsea had scored the precious away goal and Barcelona need to score another to progress to the final. Co-hosted by Holland and Belgium, Holland had been on top form and in front of their home crowd, they are expected to reach the final when they meet Italy in 2000. Italy was the underdog in this game and the Dutch are in buoyant mood. When Italy is down to 10 men with the dismissal of Gianluca Zambrotta, Dutch confident that they can win this game. However, down to 10 men, Italy had reverted to catenaccio and disrupting the Dutch playing rhythm and somehow against all the odd, Italy had taken this game to a penalty shootout and impressively had won the shootout to progress to the final of the Euro 2000. Dutch left to rue their missed chances to win the Euro in front of the home crowd.

Ryan Giggs sealed the victories and helped Manchester United complete the historic treble

What is remembered from this game is the Ryan Giggs wonder goal that sealed the victory for Manchester United and gave them a great momentum to achieve the treble of Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Champion League. When Chelsea had drawn 1-1 in the first leg at Paris, Chelsea was in the pole position to progress to the quarter-final especially when PSG striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic was sent off in 31st minute for a bookable offense. PSG need to play with 10 men and can’t afford to have a 0-0 draw as this will eliminate them. With PSG down 10 men and Chelsea had scored in the 81st minute via Tim Cahill, PSG look on the way out, but David Luiz had equalized on the 86th minute to take the game to extra time. Again, Chelsea had taken the lead via Eden Hazard but another defender Thiago Silva had scored the crucial 2nd goal with put PSG in a great position to advance to quarterfinal which they had done against all odd.
